OÏL

Year: 2008

Technique: photography,

digital collage

"Oïl" introduces a set of cyborg creatures which seem to share few similarities with our Earth's own abyssal fauna: their world is quiet, their textures delicate and their movements graceful. This project was the centerpiece of my diploma which goal was to redefine the image of cyborgs by standing out from
the anthropomorphic and ultra-mechanical shape that has spread

in the common imagination.

The shapes of these new living entities resulted from a workshop where I started to play with polypropylene, x-ray films and spray paint. This chemical discovery was then combined with a naturalistic one: a very inspiring visit at the 2006 "Abysses" exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris made me fall in love with our deep sea companions.
